This session brought to you be CIS is designed for City Managers and those who need a general understanding of Human Resources issues that impact the employer-employee relationship.

City Managers and those who wear the hat of HR rarely have time or resources to keep appraised of best practices for human resources.  And staying in compliance with employment updates can be overwhelming.  Whether you handle human resources for your city or just need to be aware of human resources practices in general, this session is for you.  We will take you through five common HR areas that can bring an unwelcome employment claim your way. 

This virtual training will be delivered in two one-hour sessions on Thursday, July 23rd and Thursday July 30th  from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.   

Session one will address:

  1. HR Tools every City needs, including; Handbook, Personnel Files, and Job Descriptions
  2. Recruitment Process
  3. Leave laws; OFLA, FLMA, ADA and Oregon Sick Leave

    Session two will address:

  4. Discipline and Documentation
  5. General Employment Laws

Attendees will come away from this training able to:

  • Assess their respective organization’s HR practices to identify potential problems.
  • Apply real-time examples of effective and current HR “best practices” to implement in their respective organizations.
  • Apply an understanding of key employment laws and legal standards in the HR areas covered.
