Public Budgeting 101 - On Demand (recorded)

PLEASE NOTE: This training is a recording of a live Zoom training. Once you register and pay for this training, you will receive an email confirmation with a link to watch the recorded training.

This general municipal budget training is intended to orient members of city budget committees, including Council members, and City staff contributing to budget development.

This LOC training will provide attendees with a high-level understanding of:

  • the budgeting process and the budget lifecycle;
  • the roles and responsibilities of key players in the budget lifecycle;
  • information on Oregon Budget Law and typical sources of revenue and expenses
  • basic principles of public meetings and ethics as they apply to local government and budget committee service
  • continuous improvement of your budget presentation
  • resources for further learning

Please note: This training was not designed to cover budget law in detail, but rather to provide an overview to a wide variety of city representatives who may be encountering this process for the first time.  LOC encourages staff responsible for budget preparation to also take advantage of the resources available through the Oregon Department of Revenue, such as the comprehensive yearly webinar recordings and technical assistance staff.
